Although less prevalent than hepatitis C in the Egyptian population, HBV is a significant problem in Egypt, and co-infection with HCV is highly related to liver disease.
In order to have a better understanding of the level of HCV and HBV infection in children as well as adults, the age range for eligibility for the hepatitis testing in the EHIS will include persons age 1-59 years. The EHIS will also obtain information needed to investigate the prevalence of aflatoxins in young children and their mothers.
