Dr. Fatma El Zanaty participated in the conference as a speaker and as a team leader of Egypt survey. This conference was coordinated by Promundo and ABAAD – Resource Centre for Gender Equality. The event was an opportunity for key women’s rights organizations, NGO’s working on men and masculinities (or interested in doing so) and key researchers and international agencies to understand how men and masculinities are part of achieving equality and peace. The event also allowed for the international launch of IMAGES MENA, one of the most comprehensive household studies ever carried out in the MENA region on men’s attitudes and practices on a wide variety of topics related to gender equality. In the Arab world, this research has included the IMAGES survey which being carried out in Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, and Palestinian Territories, as well as its accompanying qualitative research, aimed to drive evidence-based program and policy development.

The primary objective of this research is to develop a consolidated M&E system to achieve synergy among various partners reporting and information system mechanism. Thus, the study will adopt multidisciplinary approach including both qualitative and quantitative tools.

Objectives:

• Establish programmatic baseline data of FGM/C in Egypt by verifying existing data and completing missing data for the joint program frame in order to document the status of the output and outcome indicators as of January 2014.
• Verify existing data and complete missing data that present the progress in the FGM/C abandonment in Egypt during 2014 and 2015.
• Establish a monitoring system that links between the FGM/C abandonment programme and other implementing partners’ existing indicators monitoring databases, reporting system, data collection tools, process-flows and databases.

The variables of interest for comparison were:

2. Agriculture production
3. Expenditure on food and non-food items
4. Main source of income
5. General characteristics of intervention and control communities (collected through a separate community questionnaire.)

The main objective will be reached through the survey questionnaire with households where an interview had been completed in 2011 and comparing results of 2016 survey with 2011 survey. The assessments of changes in political engagement and belief formation through questions related to:

1. Political event happened in Egypt since 2011.
2. Political event happened outside Egypt since 2011.
3. The effect of political events on respondents believes.
4. Political and social believes.
5. Exposure to broadcast, print and digital media.
6. Religious believes.

The 2015 EHIS will include testing for the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in order to facilitate an understanding of the trend since 2008. In addition, the EHIS will include testing for the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Although less prevalent than hepatitis C in the Egyptian population, HBV is a significant problem in Egypt, and co-infection with HCV is highly related to liver disease.

In order to have a better understanding of the level of HCV and HBV infection in children as well as adults, the age range for eligibility for the hepatitis testing in the EHIS will include persons age 1-59 years. The EHIS will also obtain information needed to investigate the prevalence of aflatoxins in young children and their mothers. To provide the data needed to examine the relationship between aflatoxins and stunting in Egyptian children, dietary data will be collected in the EHIS interview for children age 6-59 months and their mothers.

It is expected to collect information and blood sample form around 28500 individual.

The EDHS is the largest national survey in Egypt .The primary objective of this survey is to collect data for providing accurate information on levels and trends in fertility, family planning use, infant and child mortality, and maternal and child health indicators. This assignment included:

1. Prepare sample frame.
2. Select the PSUs for the EDHS 2014 survey.
3. Conduct quick count in the selected PSUs.
4. Pretest the questionnaires for the main survey.

The 2014 EDHS will obtain current estimates of key indicators needed to measure progress toward the achievement of the goals in population and health sector.

1. Comprehensive data on child health and nutrition, access and use to health care services in the villages covered by the PCPE.

• The survey focused on a particular series of household income activities, sources of incomes, household’s welfare, and various social services which had been provided
• Describe the social characteristics of the target population, including demographic data, access to and use of services and infrastructure, sources of income, etc…
• Estimate the wealth of each household before project implementation begins to determine access to basic resources (i.e. land, labour, and technical knowledge).
